Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kenya

Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by a friendly driver who will transfer you to Hemingways Eden, a quiet and elegant boutique hotel tucked into the serene suburbs of Nairobi. Here, you’ll stay in tasteful surroundings with peaceful garden views and beautiful artwork decorating the space. Take this day to relax after your international journey—perhaps sip tea on the terrace, wander through the lush gardens, or unwind in your stylish room. If you’re feeling energetic, Nairobi offers vibrant nightlife, art galleries, and museums for you to explore.

After a delicious breakfast, you will be transferred to Wilson Airport for your scheduled flight to the Masai Mara, one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife destinations. Upon landing, you’ll be met by your guide from Rekero Camp and enjoy a game drive en route to your camp. Rekero is located in a prime position by the Talek River and offers luxurious safari tents with sweeping views over the plains. After settling into your tent, enjoy a leisurely lunch and ease into the rhythm of the bush.

In the afternoon, join a classic safari tradition of freshly baked cake served with tea or coffee, followed by an exciting afternoon game drive in search of lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, and much more. Each day at Rekero begins with an early morning game drive across the Mara’s golden plains, guided by experienced Maasai rangers who know the land better than anyone. Depending on the time of year, you might witness dramatic scenes from the Great Migration, as thousands of wildebeest and zebra thunder across the plains — often crossing rivers right in front of camp.

If you’re passionate about photography, a specially designed vehicle can be arranged to help you get those perfect shots. You may also choose to float over the plains in a hot air balloon, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush, or visit the Kenyan Wildlife Camp to learn more about conservation and the famous Big Cats of the Mara. Evenings are spent around the campfire with fellow travelers, swapping stories before sitting down to delicious dinners under the African stars.

After breakfast, you will fly out of the Masai Mara, with a connection to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda, where the next part of your adventure begins. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by a friendly representative and driven to The Boma for an overnight stay. This modern hotel in Entebbe is an ideal spot to rest after a flight and to get yourself ready for your gorilla-trekking adventure.

After breakfast, you’ll take a scenic light aircraft flight to Kihihi Airstrip, near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the home of Uganda’s famous mountain gorillas. At the airstrip, a driver from Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp will meet you for the drive through lush green hills and friendly villages. Along the way, your guide will share stories of the land, its people, and the forests you are about to explore. Located inside the park itself, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is a magical lodge surrounded by dense forest. In fact, it is not uncommon for gorillas to wander through the camp! You’ll settle in, enjoy a peaceful dinner, and prepare for the next day’s big adventure.

Wake up early for your gorilla trekking experience, one of the most moving wildlife encounters on Earth. With the help of experienced trackers and rangers, you will follow trails through the rainforest in search of a habituated family of mountain gorillas. The trek may be steep and muddy at times, but most reasonably fit travelers can manage it — and the reward is beyond words. Once you find the gorillas, you will spend up to one unforgettable hour observing them as they feed, rest, and play. After your trek, return to the lodge for a well-deserved massage and time to relax.

During your stay, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit the nearby community and meet the Batwa people, who once lived in the forest. Through their songs, dances, and storytelling, they’ll share what life used to be like deep in the rainforest. You may also enjoy guided nature walks, birdwatching, and cultural visits to local schools or villages. Whether you’re out on a hike or sipping coffee on your deck, the sights and sounds of the forest will leave you feeling deeply connected to nature.

After breakfast, you’ll return to Kihihi Airstrip for your flight back to Entebbe, arriving in time for your international flight home. As you leave behind the lush forests of Uganda and the golden savannahs of Kenya, you’ll carry with you incredible memories, breathtaking photos, and the spirit of East Africa forever in your heart.
