Serengeti National Park is a wonderful park in northern Tanzania. It has been named the “Best Safari Destination in Africa” several times. Serengeti is best known for the legendary annual wildebeest and zebra migration.
It is also home to many large predators, including lions, leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas. But there is much more to see. You may also come across black-backed jackals, side-striped jackals, African golden wolves, honey badgers, serval cats, and African wild dogs. Large herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes and different types of antelope are also common. The park covers almost 15,000 square kilometres. Its vast open plains give you plenty of space to explore, and it is often possible to get away from the crowds.
We recommend visiting between June and October if you want to see the Great Migration and watch predators in action. Between January and March, the southern Serengeti is particularly special. This is the calving season, when thousands of wildebeest give birth and predators are never far away.
