Lake Victoria, in the north, Lake Tanganyika in the west, and Lake Nyasa in the south-west.

When to visit Tanzania

Tanzania is located just below the equator and therefore has a tropical climate that is dominated by a dry and rainy season. The best time to visit Tanzania depends on what you want to experience. If you’re visiting in January or February, head to the southern Serengeti plains to witness the magical birthing season, when thousands of wildebeest and zebra calves take their first steps. From July to October, the drama of the Great Migration unfolds at the Mara River, where over a million wildebeest and zebras brave crocodile-infested waters in search of lush grazing grounds.
