Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kenya

As soon as you touch down in Nairobi, your African adventure begins. You’ll be warmly welcomed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by a friendly Greenway Nature Tours representative who will guide you through the city and assist with your seamless transfer to Wilson Airport. From there, board a light aircraft and soar above the patchwork of Kenyan landscapes before descending into the legendary Masai Mara. Once on the ground, a scenic drive takes you through rolling grasslands and acacia-dotted plains toward Naboisho Camp. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled—you might spot giraffes, zebras, or even elephants. After being welcomed at the camp, enjoy time to relax and settle in. In the evening, sip sundowners as the golden light settles over the plains, followed by a gourmet dinner under the stars.

Today is all about exploring the breathtaking Masai Mara, a place where the landscape stretches out endlessly and every turn offers a chance to witness Africa’s incredible wildlife. This is the domain of the big cats—lions bask on termite mounds, cheetahs sprint across the plains, and elusive leopards lounge in acacia trees. But that’s only the beginning. Herds of elephants, graceful giraffes, herds of wildebeest, and dazzling zebras are all part of the spectacular scene. In between game drives, return to the comfort of Naboisho Camp. Relax on your private deck with views of the savannah, cool off with a swim, or simply enjoy the serenity of the African bush. The peaceful rhythm of life in the Mara is both energizing and deeply calming.

Wake early and step into the bush on foot, led by expert guides who know the land intimately. Walking safaris bring the wilderness to life in a whole new way—learn to read animal tracks, identify bird calls, and see the smaller wonders that you miss from a vehicle. There’s also the unforgettable opportunity to float above the Mara at dawn on a hot-air balloon safari. Drift with the wind, watching elephants, hippos, and herds of antelope from above before enjoying a champagne breakfast in the open savannah. Later, engage with the people who call this land home. Naboisho Conservancy is a shining example of community-led conservation. Meet local Maasai villagers, visit development projects, and gain insight into their rich culture and deep connection to the land.

After breakfast in the Mara, bid farewell to Kenya’s vast plains and take a scenic flight to Uganda. Upon arrival in Entebbe, you’ll connect to another short flight to Kihihi Airstrip, on the edge of the forested mountains that rise from southwestern Uganda. From Kihihi, enjoy a scenic transfer through rolling hills and villages to your lodge perched at the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Here, thick mist clings to ancient trees and the air is alive with birdsong. Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp offers comfort in a jungle setting, with stunning views of the canopy and the soothing sounds of a forest stream. Relax and soak in the surroundings in preparation for your gorilla trekking adventure.

Rise early for a hearty breakfast and a detailed briefing from your trekking guides. With your permit in hand and anticipation in your heart, venture into the tangled undergrowth of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The trek can be challenging, but every step is worth it the moment you encounter a family of mountain gorillas. Watch them feed, groom each other, and play—often just meters away. It’s a deeply emotional and humbling experience that few will ever forget. After spending an hour with the gorillas, return to the lodge where you can freshen up, reflect on the experience, and share stories with fellow trekkers over a delicious dinner.

Today offers a more relaxed pace. Sleep in a little and wake to the sounds of the forest coming alive. Choose to take a guided nature walk through the surrounding jungle, where your guide will point out medicinal plants, birds, and maybe even forest monkeys. You may also visit a nearby community project, go birdwatching, or enjoy a traditional massage at the lodge’s wellness center. Take in the serenity of your surroundings from the comfort of your veranda with a cocktail or warm Ugandan tea in hand.

After a final breakfast surrounded by the sights and sounds of Bwindi, it’s time to begin your journey back. You’ll be transferred to Kihihi Airstrip for your flight to Entebbe, where your remarkable African adventure comes to a close. Take with you unforgettable memories, a sense of wonder, and perhaps even a longing to return one day.
