Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Sunset Cruise on Lake Victoria

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where a friendly Greenway Nature Tours representative will meet you and take you to your elegant hotel. After checking into your spacious room and taking some time to relax, you will set out for a magical 1.5-hour sunset cruise as the sun’s golden rays fall on the calm waters of Lake Victoria.

Enjoy a refreshing drink as you take in the beautiful scenery and peaceful atmosphere, passing local fishermen casting their last nets of the day as your boat glides toward the equator line or a green, vibrant island.

Lake Victoria is one of Africa’s greatest treasures: the largest tropical lake in the world and the biggest freshwater lake on the continent, equal in size to Ireland. Its shores are alive with birdlife and small animals. After the cruise, return to your luxurious lodge for a gourmet dinner and a short briefing about the next day, before retreating to your room for a peaceful night’s rest. Your stay will be on a bed and breakfast basis.

Overnight at Hotel No.5 Boutique or similar.

After a relaxed breakfast, you will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport to board a scenic light aircraft flight to Kihihi Airstrip. The flight takes just over an hour and offers breathtaking views of Uganda’s green landscapes and rolling hills.

From Kihihi, enjoy a beautiful 90-minute drive through small villages and winding mountain roads to the famous Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient rainforest is one of Africa most biologically rich ecosystem, home to over 120 species of mammals, 345 birds, 200 butterflies, and 160 tree varieties. It also shelters nearly half of the world’s remaining endangered mountain gorillas.

Your stay will be at Buhoma Lodge, one of only two lodges located inside the national park gate. Built from natural materials, the lodge blends luxury with nature. Its elevated lounge, bar, and dining area offer beautiful views over the forest canopy, while a crackling fireplace creates a warm and relaxing evening atmosphere.

Each spacious chalet provides privacy, comfort, and stunning forest views. You can wake up to birdsong and the chatter of monkeys while enjoying your morning coffee on your private veranda. Sometimes, even gorillas pass nearby, and L’Hoest’s monkeys are regular visitors to the gardens.

In the afternoon, after settling in, take a guided 3–4-hour community walk through Buhoma Village. Meet friendly locals and learn about their daily life. You can visit a traditional homestead, school, or orphanage, see banana brewing in progress, and meet a traditional healer who explains the use of local herbs. You may also visit Ride 4 a Woman, a community project where women make baskets, cook traditional food, and offer cultural experiences. These visits support local families and give you a closer connection to the community.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

After an early breakfast, you will take a short drive to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest headquarters where you will meet the park rangers, guides, and trackers who will lead you into the misty mountains for your unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure. Before the trek begins, you will receive a short briefing on trekking etiquette and be assigned to a specific gorilla family group.

Your journey starts in the direction where your gorilla family was last seen. The trek can take between one and six hours depending on the gorillas’ movements, and you may climb to altitudes above 2,300 metres.

The forest paths can be steep, muddy, and slippery at times, but the guides and porters will assist you, ensuring that everyone walks at a comfortable pace with time for rest, photographs, and to enjoy the breathtaking forest scenery.

The trek through Bwindi’s thick rainforest is an adventure of its own, filled with the sounds of birds, rustling leaves, and glimpses of butterflies and monkeys. When you finally come face to face with the mountain gorillas, the fatigue disappears completely. Watching them feed, play, groom, and interact quietly in their natural home is an emotional and awe-inspiring moment that few experiences can match. You will spend one full hour in their company—a moment that will stay in your heart forever.

After your trek, return to the lodge for a warm shower and a delicious lunch. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax and recover. You can enjoy a soothing massage, sit on your private veranda overlooking the forest, or take a gentle walk around the lodge to meet the friendly local community.

Overnight at Buhoma Lodge.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Enjoy a relaxed morning and a delicious breakfast at your lodge as you take in the final views of the forest and listen to the soft morning sounds of nature. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kihihi Airstrip for your scenic light aircraft flight back to Entebbe. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful aerial views of Uganda’s rolling hills, shimmering lakes, and lush green landscapes one last time. Upon arrival in Entebbe, a representative will meet you at the airport and assist you with your connection to the international terminal for your onward flight.

If your international flight is scheduled for later in the day, we can arrange a comfortable day room at a nearby luxury hotel or organize an optional short excursion. You might enjoy a visit to the Mabamba Swamps to search for the rare Shoebill, relax by the shores of Lake Victoria, or have a leisurely lunch at one of Entebbe’s fine lakeside restaurants. Whatever your choice, it will be a perfect way to end your unforgettable Ugandan safari.
