Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be greeted by a Greenway Nature Tours representative. After a brief introduction and safari overview, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for check-in. In the afternoon, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, and if time permits, take a city tour. Sample local street food and explore Caplaki Craft Village before heading back to your hotel.

After breakfast, check out and drive to Nyungwe National Park, with a stop to visit the Butare National Museum en route. Donated in 1989 by the Belgian government in collaboration with the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, the museum showcases exhibits on daily life and traditional crafts. Remarkably, the museum remained untouched during the 1994 civil war. You will arrive at your lodge in the evening.
Nyungwe National Park is home to Africa’s largest protected expanse of montane forest and is a significant biodiversity hotspot. Spanning 1,019 km² (over 100,000 hectares), the park features forested mountains, flowing streams, shadowy valleys, and vast swamps. Situated in the Albertine Rift, with elevations ranging from 1,600 to 3,000 meters, this high-altitude forest rises above Lake Kivu and forms the watershed that separates the Congo and Nile Rivers.

The park’s stunning volcanic landscape features a mix of tropical, bamboo, and montane forests, as well as Afroalpine shrubland, thickets, grasslands, marshes, and small lakes. Located in the northwestern corner of Rwanda, bordering Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, this 160 km² (16,000 hectare) park is home to five major (inactive) volcanoes. You will afternoon to relax before dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge.

After breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park for a golden monkey trek. With the help of a guide, explore the bamboo habitat and visit groups of habituated golden monkeys, spending up to an hour observing them.
Following lunch, check out and drive back to Kigali, making a stop for a canoe ride on the Mukungwa River. Before you set off, you’ll receive a safety briefing. The initial part of the journey is calm and flat, providing a chance to practice steering as you drift downstream. After 20-30 minutes, you’ll pause for a brief lesson on navigating small rapids, where helmets are required. As you continue through the countryside, enjoy the sights and sounds of rural Rwanda. Before tackling a 200-meter section with faster water and some curves, another briefing will be given. The canoe trip lasts approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, ending just after a road bridge.
Afterward, you’ll head to Kigali International Airport, with your arrival timed for your departure flight.
