Kigali has been the capital of Rwanda since it gained independence in 1962. Rwanda is a place that offers so much to the adventurous traveller and is a country that has been rebuilding itself since the horrific genocide of 1994. And though the past won’t, and shouldn’t, be forgotten, the future of tourism in Rwanda is looking bright thanks to its welcoming people, an abundance of lakes and the beautiful Virunga Mountains. Your adventure begins with a meet-and-greet with a Greenway Nature Tours Representative, who will transfer you to your hotel.
Have a heart-wrenching visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial – the final resting place for over 250,000 victims of the mass atrocity that took place in Rwanda in 1994. Following this, embark on a community walk in the vibrant Nyamirambo neighbourhood and enjoy a delicius lunch at one of Kigali’s top restaurants. Then start the leisurely 3 hour drive to Akagera National Park. As Rwanda’s largest national park, covering 433 square miles, Akagera is home to an impressive array of wildlife, including the Big Five (lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos), which are not found in the other three national parks in the country. The park’s savannah plains are beautifully interspersed with lakes and swamps.
