The drive takes us through the picturesque Maasai country, where you’ll experience a variety of climates and vegetation. We’ll reach Lake Manyara National Park in time to enjoy a picnic lunch at the location that Ernest Hemingway described as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa.”
Manyara is a naturalist’s delight thanks to its diverse environments. Ranging from wetlands and woodlands to grasslands and hot springs, the park is simply packed with wildlife. Over 400 species of bird have been recorded including large flocks of flamingos and migratory water birds.
Manyara’s forests ring with the call of monkeys and birds while its acacia woodlands are home to rare tree-climbing lions and slow-strolling elephants. We’ll take an evening drive, leaving the park and head up the towering escarpment for wonderful views.

Maasai people who have lived in northern Tanzania for thousands of years call Serengeti National Park Siringet, meaning “endless plains.”
Indeed, anyone who visits the Serengeti will be struck by the flat terrain – stretching endlessly into the distance, punctuated occasionally by scattered hills, acacia trees and the silhouettes of wandering wildlife. We’ll arise with the sun to another beautiful day on the plains of the Serengeti.
After a hearty breakfast at your lodge or tented camp, we’ll hit the road coming to one of the most unique anthropological sites on Earth, Oldupai Gorge. This is the site where archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey discovered early hominid fossils and stone tools in 1960.
We’ll continue to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, at the crest of the crater rim. From this vantage point, you’ll be able to look down upon a mammoth crater that is now home to the largest concentration of large mammals in the world.
If you wish, you can take advantage of an optional visit to a local Maasai boma. Meet these indigenous herders in their village and learn first-hand about their centuries-old lifestyle and culture.

Some two million years ago, a volcano roughly the size of Mount Kilimanjaro exploded dramatically and collapsed in on itself. Millenia later, its caldera’s ancient walls are still intact, encircling and cradling one of the most biodiverse and precious wild spaces in Africa.
Let us have a hearty breakfast to get ready for a day of non-stop safari action. Secure in our 4 x 4, we’ll descend the 600m (1312 feet) crater walls down to the rich habitat.
As we travel through springs, forests, and grasslands, we’ll spot wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, and the big cats that prey on them. Ngorongoro is also home to the critically endangered black rhinos, which continue to breed in the wild.
In this land of lions, hyenas, cheetahs, and leopards, you may also encounter flamingos at the alkaline waters of Lake Magadi.
We’ll pause our safari for a mid-day picnic lunch amongst all this abundance and then continue with an afternoon game drive, before ascending the steep crater walls toward evening.
