3 Day Trip to Beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park

You can book this 3 Days Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari and discover one of Uganda’s most stunning landscapes and wildlife destination. Queen Elizabeth National Park is located in southwestern Uganda, a few meters south of the Equator. On the journey here, you can pass from one hemisphere to the other, pausing at zero degrees to take photos. The  1978 km2 park is also Uganda’s most biodiverse protected area, boasting over 95 mammal species including four of the Big Five (no rhino). But bird-wise, it’s booming.

While smaller than blockbuster safari destinations of East Africa— the Masai Mara in Kenya or Serengeti in Tanzania — Queen harbours considerably more avian species: more than 600, in fact, a number that, according to BirdLife International, no protected area in Africa can beat.

Your morning game drive through the Kasenyi Plains offers a great chance to spot a variety of wildlife, including Buffalo, Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Uganda Kobs, Bushbucks, Hippos, Forest Hogs, Warthogs, Crocodiles, Hyenas, Jackals, and more. This area is not only rich in wildlife but also one of the most picturesque parts of the park, especially in the golden light of the morning.

You’ll also have the opportunity to spot a variety of bird species, such as the African Hobby, Ruppell’s Vulture, Bateleur, African Skimmer, Great Blue Turaco, Great White Pelican, Palm-nut Vulture, Papyrus Gonolek, and Pel’s Fishing Owl, among others.

After your game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation.

Afternoon Boat Cruise

In the afternoon, a thrilling boat cruise awaits! At 2 PM, you will head to the Mweya jetty for a two-hour boat ride on the Kazinga Channel. The channel is a squiggle of fresh water, roughly 35km long and 2,500 feet wide.  Though officially a river, its flow is almost unnoticeable. Kazinga Channel connects two freshwater lakes — Lake Rutanzige (also known by its colonial name, Lake Edward) and Lake Katunguru (also called Lake George). It is one of the best wildlife-viewing spots in the whole of Uganda.

This natural river channel attracts many wild animals of Uganda, including one of the world’s densest concentrations of hippopotamus and numerous Nile crocodiles.  Elephants and buffalos also frequent its banks, making it a prime destination for safari boat cruises and wildlife game viewing in Uganda.

As you might expect, the Kazinga Channel is also teeming with a variety of African birds. You can easily spot 60 or 70 species of bird on a single 2 hour boat cruise excursion. If you are a bit of a twitcher, you are going to love it! Here are some of the species you might see African Skimmer, Pink-backed Pelican, Great White Pelican, African Openbill, Saddle-billed Stork, African fish eagle, and King Fishers.

After the cruise, a short game drive along the channel track will take you back to the lodge for some well-earned rest, dinner, and a peaceful night’s sleep.
