Today, we journey into the heart of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, with our first stop at Elsamere, the former home of Joy Adamson, the renowned author of Born Free. This iconic book helped bring global attention to wildlife conservation. The house is now a museum, filled with photos and mementos of Joy and George Adamson’s work, including images of Elsa, the lioness who made it all possible.
Next, enjoy a scenic boat ride on Lake Naivasha, the highest of the Great Rift Valley’s lakes, where you'll likely spot plenty of hippos. Afterward, indulge in a delightful high tea lunch on the grounds that Joy held dear, with the tranquil lake providing a perfect backdrop. In the afternoon, we continue on to your Lake Nakuru lodge, arriving by early evening. From the lodge, take in breathtaking views of Lake Nakuru and the surrounding national park, where the air is filled with bird calls and the area teems with wildlife. This morning, you'll explore Lake Nakuru Park in a 4x4 safari vehicle, with the stunning lake at the heart of the park. It can get chilly in the mornings, so be sure to dress warmly. The lake has earned a reputation as one of the world’s greatest birdwatching spots, with vast flocks of flamingos often painting the landscape in shades of pink. Though recent flooding has affected the bird population, the park is still home to many other animals, including waterbuck, reedbuck, giraffes, and gazelles. Leopards also roam the area, and your chances of spotting one are high. After returning to the lodge for a relaxing lunch, you'll head back out for another afternoon game drive. Be on the lookout for one of Africa's most endangered species, the elusive black rhinoceros. While sightings of white rhinos are more common, spotting a black rhino is a rare and special experience.
